I am soooo tired right now. Kid #2 woke up this morning with the signs of this lovely illness. So our family count is now up to 2 kids and 1 grandma. It feels like my body wants to get it but I am sure fighting it. This flu is so confusing, no wonder so many ppl are catching it. The signs and symptoms are so different for everyone. The school said 24 hours after the fever is gone, students are allowed back but yet the doc said this lasts for 7-10 days...which one do you go by? I had called to see if my 1st kid could get on Tamiflu and they said its only for high risk patients but yet 1 of my kids is high risk but it still didn't qualify him. Doesnt seem quite right :( Time out for mommy....please!

MY 8 yr old daughter had it 4 weeks ago. The school told us the same thing yet the doctor said keep her out for a week, I went with the doctor just because I wanted to make sure she got better and I did not want to spread it to someone else. I just wish that more parents would keep their kids home when they are sick so that the rest of the healthy kids stay healthy! Just make sure they get plenty of rest, drink lots of water and make sure they eat. Hope they feel better soon! My daughter threw up 3 times, then got the high fever, coughing, body aches, chills, ear infection, scratchy throat. Lasted 3 days total but kept her home for a week.

I had the same experience, ShannonLea.
My daughter was sick, her fever broke and I was planning to send her to school the next day. My neighbor called and said her children had tested postive for H1N1 and recommended I test her.
I did and she was positive. The doctor said even though the fever broke, not to send her in. I would have sent her in without the test.

I wanted to bring her into see her doctor and I could not getan appointment for 2 months! I took her to the ER the first night when she tosssed her cookies and all they did for her was give her some water to see if she could keep that down, and a xray of her tummy, she was constipated, and an pill to keep her from tossing her cookies, and sent us home. I called her doctor again the next day and all they told me wass "It's just that nasty virus that is going around, Keep her home for a week". Nobody would test her, but we knew what it was because one of her friends had it not long before she got it. Everyone that I know seems to get it in a diferent form. Eric & I just got the cough, dizzy, slight tummy troubles. My mom was the same way. I just think they should have come out with this shot a long time ago when they knew that it was going to be this widespread.

My kids' symptoms are fever, no appetite, cough and dizzy. My 5 year old has been laying in his room all day with a humidifier running. You know he's not well when he'll stay in a room all day long. Here is my question...if you get this, do you still need to get immunized against it? Or are you naturally immune now?

My daughter's doctor said that you do not need the shot if you have gotten the H1N1, but some of the things that I have seen on TV have said that you should still get the shot..... Who is right?

I am taking Airborne every other day right now to keep my immune system up. I have giving the kids half a tablet a day as well in their juice so they cannot taste it - not the best tasting stuff, but I think it does help.
I am not sure about the immunization question. The CDC's website doesn't come straight out and say that you cannot get it again, but here is what I found:
The symptoms of influenza (flu-like illnesses) are similar to those caused by many other viruses. Even when influenza viruses are causing large numbers of people to get sick, other viruses are also causing illnesses. Specific testing, called “RT-PCR test,” is needed in order to tell if an illness is caused by a specific influenza strain or by some other virus. Since most people with flu-like illnesses will not be tested with RT-PCR this season, the majority will not know whether they have been infected with 2009 H1N1 flu or a different virus.
Therefore, if you were ill but do not know if you had 2009 H1N1 infection, you should get vaccinated, if your doctor recommends it. So, most people recommended for 2009 H1N1 vaccination should be vaccinated with the 2009 H1N1 vaccine regardless of whether they had a flu-like illness earlier in the year. If you have had 2009 H1N1 flu, as confirmed by an RT-PCR test, you should have some immunity against 2009 H1N1 flu and can choose not to get the 2009 H1N1 vaccine. However, vaccination of a person with some existing immunity to the 2009 H1N1 virus will not be harmful.

Seriously here....are we the only household still dealing with this junk? Now its my turn. I don't wish this on anyone. I knew I was getting sick but I thought it was just a cold coming on...nope, I wouldn't be that lucky I guess.

Hi Stacy, it went through our home too. My 22 month old had a cough for like a half hour and was over it but my 6 month old had to fight it a bit harder. It wasn't terrible for her but she wanted to nurse all the time so I was (and still am) exhausted! As for the comment about having the shot if you have already had it, if you have had the H1N1 virus you are now immune for life (think of chicken pox). Yes, there are always odd exceptions to the rule ( I had pox 3 times) but the vaccine isn't going to be any stronger than your natural immunity. If you are not sure if what you had was H1N1 then you will need to make an informed decision on whether or not to get the vaccine. There is an interesting heated debate about it in the national Green Moms group. They are calling eachother names and everything, yikes! I think I will just stay off of that thread for a while and be happy that my family is immune from it from here on out!
Chin up Stacy...this too shall pass! And you want to know the most awful thing about my experience with the flu? Even though I felt horrible and was throwing up, I secretly thought, "yay, maybe I will finally lose some of this baby weight!" Isn't that terrible!!!

I'm so confused! My doctor said even if my boys have had H1N1 (which I'm fairly sure they did) they should still get the H1N1 vaccine. I guess the CDC is saying the same thing. I don't know what to do......
